On June 20, 1972, The Haywood County Sheltered Workshop opened its doors for the first time at the old Patton Elementary School in Canton, NC. This opening was only the beginning of fulfilling the dream of an Advisory Committee which had been working since early 1966 to organize a sheltered workshop operation for the citizens of Haywood County.
HVO began with a mission to provide vocational opportunities for individuals with disabilities and disadvantages. Starting with just six clients, the organization steadily grew in both size and impact. In 1985, the name was changed to Haywood Vocational Opportunities, Inc., reflecting a broader commitment to community development. Over the years, HVO expanded its facilities and services, evolving into a leading manufacturer of medical drapes and custom healthcare products. Today, HVO provides quality medical products to our customers while supporting quality services for vocational training and community engagement to our individuals with disabilities and barriers to employment. With over 50 years of experience and a dedication to quality and community, HVO continues to innovate in medical manufacturing while staying true to its mission.
HVO celebrates 52 years of service in Haywood County!
